Am I eligible to take the NBEO Continued Professional Development in Optometry (CPDO) exam Exam?

BOARD ELIGIBLE STATUS

If an optometrist has not met all of the requirements for NBEO-BC™ board certification, he/she can apply for board-eligible status for a period of 3 years so as to have the opportunity to meet the NBEO-BC™ board certification requirements.

If an NBEO-BC™ participant (i.e., board-certified) at any time fails to comply with ongoing requirements of the MOC program, then his/her status will change from board certified to board eligible. That board eligible status shall continue for a period of 3 years. If the optometrist satisfies the MOC program requirements during that 3-year period, then he/she will become board certified. But, if the optometrist fails to complete the MOC program requirements during his/her 3 year eligible status, he/she will need pass the CPDO™ exam and complete 90 hours of CE courses within a 3-year period in the 3 (of 7) categories in which she/he scored the lowest to become board certified.

If a participant in the board eligible status has only been board eligible and has not fulfilled all NBEO-BC™ board certification requirements after a 3-year board-eligible status period has expired, he/she will need to complete all NBEO-BC™ board certification requirements as well as pass the CPDO™ exam before becoming board certified.
